Data is kept within the messages system for 28 days. This applies on a per-message/alert basis, with individual messages being removed when they reach the age limit.

However, Note that  the archive has an indefinite retention period.

• user-published public and private message topics are archived on an opt-in basis. 
• However, any message published through the large message offload facility is archived.
